Railyards For All Rally!
On October 21 from 4:30-6 PM outside Old City Hall, 915 I St, Sacramento, UNITE HERE Local 49 and Railyards for All will host a rally & picket to demand a better Railyards development deal for the people of Sacramento. The Railyards development is set to double the size of Downtown Sacramento with thousands of low-wage jobs and 10,000 new housing units, but just 6% is required to be affordable housing and 94% can be luxury units. City Council plans to give away $222 million in taxpayer money to the developers, Republic and Downtown Railyard Ventures, and a key vote is coming up on October 27th. A majority of Railyards residents voted down the subsidy plan last year, but City Hall has brought it back with all the residents cut out in an effort to silence them. Join workers & residents at the rally to demand community benefits in the Railyards deal— 25% affordable housing, an anti-displacement fund, a grocery store, and living wage jobs!
