Are you a first generation college student?

How would you describe your family background? Do they support you financially?

What is your family’s economic situation? Do you support your family financially through your work? Are any of your family members undocumented? Have they had issues with immigration in the past or currently? How have things changed at home since coming to Yale?

How has the cost of living affected you and your family? Do you feel like spending time with friends, transportation, or commuting home is burdensome? 

Do you have to take out loans, work multiple jobs, and/or feel a need to make significant money during the summers/after undergrad to pay off debt?

How many student jobs do you work/have you worked, if any? How many hours a week do you work and what is your current wage? Do you feel like your work has impacted your personal health, ability to study, pursue extracurriculars, or spend time with friends? 

Have you ever had to work more than 19 hours in a week? Have you ever had to work unpaid or roll over hours? Have you ever had issues getting paid on time or getting paid at all?

Have you ever come into conflict with your coworkers or supervisor and didn’t know how to resolve it? Has your supervisor ever treated you poorly/unfairly, or have you ever felt unsafe in your work environment? 

If you are a student researcher, how does your laboratory or your professor (if it’s not in a lab) compensate you for your experience, if they do at all? 

Have you or your coworkers experienced fewer hours or layoffs? Is your workplace understaffed?

Have any programs/opportunities that you were previously involved in gone away or had their budgets cut? How did these cuts affect you? Have you had to find a job to make up for these cuts?

Have there been fewer events/opportunities at your cultural house?

Do you feel like the university has been proactive in trying to make up/seek out funding for programs that have been cut? How do you feel about the university’s preemptive attempts to make a deal with the Trump administration?

What have you observed about the relationship between New Haven and Yale? What kind of programs could be funded if Yale paid its fair share?
